Customer Feedback - Boards

Dan Simpson following first use of 2008 Tabou Mantas:

I used the Tabou Mantas for the first time on Friday (29th February 2008) at Calshot sailing with fellow 4Boards team rider Robin Penna. The wind was gusting over 35 knots and I tested out the manta 67 and 59 both were extremely fast and easy to carve jibe, even when faced with steep sharp chop the boards jibed as if they were on rails.  The Manta 59 is the fastest and lightest board I have ever been on.  I am looking forward to putting my new Choco fins in and seeing what they are like against Britain’s best at the upcoming UKWA slalom events.

Tabou Freestyle 100 2007 model  & Gaastra Manic 2007 Sails 4.2, 4.7 & 5.3 by Chris Haysey -  4Boards Gaastra / Tabou opinion rider.

The board is fantastic, it's very responsive and is making the moves look very good. i.e. it slides a lot faster and smoother with more control than my previous board giving you more time for variation moves and plane showing off!!As for the sails. I can't describe how much better they are than the xxxx's (brand name removed - editor) I was using. So light, powerful, responsive - Think they are great!

Tabou Rocket 95

"It's quick but really stable and handled some messy 4ft plus chop very comfortably. The best bit is that it's very easy to sail and if I find it easy, pretty much everybody will !  Comprehensively the best board I've ever bought."  You (4boards) were right about the Rocket   - Caroline Radway, Sponsored Sailor, after first 6 hours on the board.   Just a quick report from a very happy customer!I have now used the new board on flat water, mushy waves and big huge chop, from underpowered 6.2m to maxed 4.7m. The board was bought to replace a 94lt FSW and an 85lt FSW, and fill the gap between a 78lt F2 Guerilla Wave and a Starboard Carve 121.  I am delighted that it performs this task perfectly.  It planes early and feels controllable at its limit.  It is super easy to sail in a straight line but super-loose too and makes jumping so easy.  It equally loves to be gybed wide or tight.   As one other happy customer put it, this is categorically the best board I have ever bought, with such a huge range that will make it probably my most-used board I have ever owned too.  Definitely suitable for 6.2 down to 4.7m    Yours totally delighted, Ross.    PS for the record I’m 74kg."

Tabou Rocket 105

One of our customers  purchased a Rocket 105 in early 2006, here is his feedback from use in Crete just a week or so after buying it. "I’m really enjoying the X Rocket 105 and got a top speed of 32.5 knots.  Yesterday I was using a 5m Gaastra Manic on it and still got 30.4 knots" Crete July 2006 - "The X-Rocket still shines in comparison with the JP’s and must be the best board on the market.  Amazing how it can take from 4.2m to 6.5m happily by just changing fins."

Tabou 3S 97

"This is possibly the first board that I've jumped on and immediately enjoyed sailing it. Most boards I've taken a bit of time, tweaked footstraps postions, mastfoot, and generally experimented with, but with the 3S 97 I was immediately at ease and able to enjoy riding the board.  I've managed to use this board with various rigs, including - 2006 4.5m Gaastra Manic, 2005 5.0m Combat, 2006 5.4m Search, 2006 5.6m Remedy, 2006 5.7m Expression, 2006 6.4m Remedy already ! It worked really well with each and every one of them, but if I had to pick an optimum size, for myself, it would have to be a sail around the 5.4m-5.8m size, so from my quiver the 5.6m Remedy fits a treat. I did wonder if the 6.4m Remedy would be a little big for the board, but it felt fine for the board, though I was starting to get a bit 'powered up' as wind notched up to 5.0m weather prompting a changedown to the 5.6m Remedy for me ... I've used the 3S 97 along the south coast in rolling swell, flat water bump & jump chop & in onshore waves, and have kept it set up with the 3 footstraps, using the standard fin. I've sailed the 3S 97 with a Gaastra 5.6m Remedy wearing a GPS and registered 24 knots max speed, sailing at Camber Sands which is an onshore wave location as opposed to a flat water speed strip, so i'm sure it'll go quicker than that, not that I'd consider this to be a speed board, but like everyone, always curious to know how quick something goes !. To date this must be the most versatile board I've ever sailed, providing me with a flat water bump & jump blaster, a lighter-moderate wind (5.0-6.5m weather) on-shore wave jumping & riding tool, and a real wave sailing trainer platform. I've made my highest jumps so far on this board, and I've managed to drop down the steepest wave faces I've dared, stick in a tight backside riding bottom turn and head back up to smack the lip and drop back down the wave face ..... I've surfed this board so much that I've ached all over from the sailing unhooked and the twisting and turning. I'm way off trying any freestyle on the 3S 97, but given how surfy it feels on a wave face and how stable and easy it is to ride, I'm pretty sure that freestyle is well within the grasp of some-one demanding such performance. It's a board that I like so much that I'd consider upgrading from std edition to the more exotic (lighter, stiffer) limited edition version just to go that bit faster, jump that bit higher, and just squeeze even more grin factor per session . . . . . the 3S 97 is almost good enough to convince me to can the racing and go all '3 style' .... but that competitive edge will always lurk deep within and then I spot the Tabou Manta and those Gaastra GTX sails and the need for speed comes flooding back. Tabou 3S 97 .... for me makes the best of coastal windsurfing options in conditions where I'd be using 4.5m - 6.5m sails and needing a little more volume than the Pocket Wave 78 for whatever reason. The 3S 97 punches out through onshore conditions with little fuss or bother, accelerates to respectable speed pretty quickly, jumps high and controllably, rides waves with a loose surfy feel and does all the bread and butter stuff with minimal fuss. It is indeed the easiest, most versatile and most fun coastal sub 100 litre board that I've sailed." Loving it ... cheers - Ian Kraft (shop ambassador) www.surfkraft.com

Tabou Rocket 105 + Gaastra GTX 6.5 - Report from Crete May 2006

"The first 2 days were nice 6.5m weather and I was able to try the latest Gaastra GTX. It really is a super sail and was extremely fast but also very light and comfortable handling, I would say probably the nicest sail of its size I have used (and I've used a lot of sails !). The Tabou Rocket was perfect with it and remains my favourite board. As I mentioned last year, the only tricky thing about sailing the Rocket is deciding which side to pass all the others !" Tabou Rocket 105 + Gaastra Poison 2005 4.5 - Report from Crete May 2006 "We had very strong wind indeed on Saturday and Sunday (days 4 & 5), blowing from dawn to dusk, typical Kouremenos. Windsurfed on the Tabou Rocket 105 with 4.5m Gaastra Poison : a wicked combination on which I clocked up 30.7 knots on the GPS with potential for a lot more (last year was 32 knots on the Rocket and 36 on the 85 litre Tabou 3S). The Poison is a stable sail and unlike some wave-sails has some power under the boom which helps reach the high speeds and smooth gybes."

Tabou Rocket 105 + Gaastra Matrix  2006 5.5 & Manic 5.0 2004 - Report from Crete May 2006

Days 7 & 8 (Tue and Wed) : we saw there would be no wind in Kouremenos (South-Westerly instead of the usual North-Westerly) and went down to Xerocampos which is about an hour's drive over the mountains to the south cost. As we started the descent we saw miles of blue sea covered in white horses ! I sailed with 5.5m Matrix 2006 (brand new) and also 5m Manic, both on the Tabou Rocket. Both sails are very good, stable and powerful. It really was excellent windsurfing.
